What type of objects store kinetic energy?
A moving van has a kinetic energy of 800,000 and a velocity of 20 m/s. What is the mass of the van?
Watch the video and answer the qeustions on the companion sheet task 1
The greater the height of an object above the ground, the greater the GPE it will have.
The stronger the gravitational field strength, again the greater the GPE. On Earth, the gravitational field strength is 9.8 N/kg.
The greater the mass at the same height, the greater the GPE.
On your companion sheet, fill in the the equation so that you can identify what each letter stands for and can know what units they are mesaured in.
Then rearrange the equation to make mass the focus, then gravitational field, them height.
Question
Dr. Edmunds drops his iPad from a height of 2m. If the initial GPE is 3.92J, what is mass of the iPad?
Have a read throught the worked example on the companion sheet then work your way through the questions .
They get harder as you go through - how far can you go?
Use the blank sheets in your companion sheet (add more if needed) to answer the questions. Alternativly, you can answer in your exercise book.
