Food moves through the small intestine by a process called peristalsis.
The food is digested. This means that:
Carbohydrates are broken down into simple sugars
Fats are broken down into fatty acids and Glycerol
Proteins are broke into amino acids
These smaller molecules can the be absorbed into the blood stream by diffusion.
